When Walter Whittard first set up store selling tea, coffee and hot chocolate, he had no idea what the next century or so would bring. It’s a story of breaking with tradition, war and disaster, survival, success, innovation and creativity. At 17, he quit the family leather business and began working for a tea trader in London. Eight years later, he opened his own shop on Fleet Street. Since the early days, he insisted on “buying the best”, a philosophy Whittard has stuck to all these years later.
